Tucked away in the heart of London’s stylish Fitzrovia district, nestled between the sophistication of Marylebone and the glitz of Soho, a brand new boutique hotel has been causing a stir.
The Mandrake Hotel, brainchild of Lebanese businessman Rami Fustok, makes a point of standing out. Like the herbal plant from which it takes its name, which myth would have it has magical properties, the Mandrake Hotel toys with the surreal and the mysterious.
Each of the 34 rooms is decorated in a unique and eclectic style. Each of the four floors is decked out with collections from hip contemporary artists, there is a stunning top floor penthouse with a bath tub under a retractable roof, and the whole premises is built around a central courtyard bedecked with hanging jasmine and passion flower.
The Mandrake is designed to be a feast for the senses. Details such as soundscapes and specially chosen scents transcend the average hotel experience, a glasshouse full of medicinal herbs sits on the first floor, and there is a Michelin-starred restaurant for those who want to indulge their tastebuds.
Not surprisingly, since opening, The Mandrake has become the talk of the town, with plenty of whispers already about it being the most fashionable new destination in the capital.
Reliable radio
Brentwood enjoyed a glimpse of the high life when we were asked to supply two way radios for a London Fashion Week event held at the hotel in mid-September.
As you would expect, the glamourous event attracted a large assortment of the beautiful and famous from the world of fashion and beyond, and security was high on the list of priorities.
