Telox TE300

The TE300 is a compact, lightweight push-to-talk (PTT) handset designed to deliver simple, reliable instant communication.

In form and function, the TE300 looks and operates exactly like a two way radio. The non-display sibling of the TE300K, the TE300’s controls couldn’t be simpler. As well as the time-honoured PTT button for one-touch voice transmission, it features a channel select switch for scrolling between call groups, a powerful in-built speaker and an external antenna.

But appearances can be deceiving. The TE300 is not, in fact, a two-way radio. It is instead an Android mobile device, connecting to mobile networks via a Lugra nano-SIM.

Operating on 3G and 4G-LTE networks, the TE300 provides universal connectivity wherever you are and wherever you move. That overcomes one of the major limitations of traditional two way radio – the localised reach of individual radio networks.

Of course, even mobile networks have areas of weak signal where it can be harder to get a connection. To counter this, the TE300 has an external LTE antenna – not something you will see on your average smartphone. The addition of an antenna helps to improve communication performance when signal is weak and decreases the impact the surrounding environment can have on signal quality, e.g. when using the radio in built-up areas.

In addition, the TE300 also supports WiFi, so you can come off mobile networks and communicate via broadband whenever you are in range.

As with any voice comms device, audio quality is a defining factor. One criticism of voice over LTE (VoLTE) applications in the past is that voice data packets do not transmit well on mobile frequencies, and the quality of audio when converted by the receiving handset could be poor.

But the technology has caught up a lot in recent years, and VoLTE applications in general nowadays do a good job at ‘natural’ sounding voice reproduction. In addition, the TE300 boasts a 2W speaker that delivers impressive volume and audio clarity, making the device easy to hear in all environments.

While elegant in appearance, the TE300 is built to last. It comes with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and passes drop tests up to 1.5 metres. The combination of a 3600mAh removable battery and a low consumption Qualcomm chipset delivers impressive battery life on a single charge.

Finally, to support team coordination and health and safety protocols, the TE300 supports GPS and GLONASS satellite location tracking.
