The Samsung Galaxy XCover Field Pro is a rugged, reliable toughened smartphone popular with emergency services and first responders. With all the power and functionality you’d expect from a Samsung Galaxy device, the XCover Field Pro also comes with a few tweaks that make it ideal for professionals who need mission-critical reliability out in the field and on the move.
For one, unlike your standard smartphone, the XCover Field Pro features convenient one-touch transmission for voice calls. Borrowing from two way radio design, it features a prominent push-to-talk (PTT) button on the side, providing instant voice broadcast to call groups and dispatch teams. Compared to the start-stop nature of telephone calls, where you have to dial a number and then wait for a contact to answer, this allows for continuous contact and simplified one-to-many communication in real time as events unfold.
Another way the XCover Field Pro stands out from the rest of the Samsung Galaxy stable is its durability and resilience. It starts with a shatterproof 5.1-inch QHD full-colour touchscreen. Often viewed as the weak point of smartphones, the toughened XCover Field Pro screen still delivers HD quality and clarity, with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.
Looking at the device as a whole, the XCover Field Pro benefits from an IP68 waterproof rating, which means it can withstand being fully submerged for up to 30 minutes. Use outdoors in bad weather, or even an accidental drop into a puddle, poses no danger. And speaking of drops, this device also meets MIL-STD 810 H standards which, amongst other things, cover impact durability, including testing by dropping it from a height of two metres onto a hard surface.
Another thing that is absolutely critical to emergency services personnel is knowing that your device will provide that critical link to your colleagues and back to base for as long as you need it – any time, any place. The XCover Field Pro features an ultra high capacity 4500mAH removable battery. Not only does this provide up to 28 hours talk time on a single charge, it also gives you the option to carry a fully charged spare to swap mid shift should the need arise.
Like all smartphones, the XCover Field Pro operates via 3G and 4G LTE mobile networks, and can also connect to WiFi. With a Lugra SIM card fitted, users get universal coverage, with HD VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and video calling support. Video calls are possible thanks to 12 MP dual aperture rear and 8MP front cameras. 64GB of on-device storage also gives you the option of storing hundreds of hours of video and audio recordings, not to mention thousands of videos.
As an Android device, the XCover Field Pro provides the flexibility to tailor features and communication options by downloading whatever apps fit your needs.
