It looks like smartphone, it functions like a smartphone… and yet the Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 is more than your typical consumer accessory. Built with the needs of business and industry in mind, the XCover 5 is a rugged, reliable toughened smart device with a simplified set of controls for convenient use on the move.
The feature that makes the XCover 5 stand out from other smartphones the most is the push-to-talk (PTT) button mounted on the side. Borrowed from two way radios, a PTT button triggers one-touch transmission for effortless voice communication. No more scrolling through call groups and contacts to make a call. Just press and talk to colleagues.
But the XCover 5 doesn’t operate on radio frequencies. Like all smartphones, it’s a mobile device that connects to 3G and 4G LTE networks. A Lugra SIM card will set you up for communication without borders, wherever you and your colleagues roam.
And as an Android device, you can upload whatever apps support your operations best. For example, you can install Microsoft Teams and choose between one-touch group voice calls via the PTT button, live chat messaging or even video calls. The XCover 5 boasts a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front camera for flexible video and photo capture, with a dual LED flash to brighten things up when light levels are low.
Another thing that distinguishes the XCover 5 from standard smartphones is how durable and resilient it is. It comes with an IP68 rating which means it is fully waterproof and can survive full submersion for up to 30 minutes. Plus it offers high levels of protection against ingress of dust, dirt and sand. The device also meets MIL-STD 810 H standards that cover impact and vibration resilience. In dusty industrial environments, outdoors in bad weather, when being used at height or around heavy equipment, the XCover 5 stands up to the task.
This resilience comes despite the XCover 5 having a 5.3-inch HD+ touchscreen, usually the weak point on a smartphone. Again built with the needs of industry in mind, the advanced touch sensitivity means the screen can still be operated while wearing protective gloves, and provides a detailed viewing experience wherever and whenever you need it.
Working long shifts and worried the battery not last, especially if you have multiple apps running? No problem. The powerful high capacity 3000mAH removable battery provides ample life and can be switched out for a fully charged spare mid shift.
Finally, in recognition of the cybersecurity threats that IP connections pose, the XCover 5 comes with Samsung’s advanced multi-layered security software, Knox. This keeps all of your data secure at every level, hardware and software, from the chipset to applications. Face Recognition technology ensures only authenticated users have access to the device.
