Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) is taking business-class radio in an exciting new direction, taking full advantage of the universal connectivity of mobile and WiFi networks for communication without limits.
But what if you want to add PoC devices to your existing two way radio fleet? Either as a gradual migration option, or because modern digital mobile radio (DMR) remains a high quality workplace comms solution?
Introducing the Hytera PDC550. An innovative multi-mode communications device, the PDC550 offers smartphone functionality with IP and radio connectivity combined.
With support for 2G, 3G and 4G LTE mobile (via a Lugra SIM), broadband Wi-Fi and narrowband UHF and VHF radio frequencies, the PDC550 is the ideal hub for connecting different types of communication device across multiple settings. And not just for voice calls, either – the PDC550 is equally adept at video and data communication.
A 5-inch HD touchscreen provides the familiar interface of a smartphone. But unlike consumer handsets, the PDC550 is built to take the knocks that inevitably come in tough industrial environments. The screen is made from third-generation Corning Gorilla Glass and can be safely operated out in the rain or with gloves on. Anti-slip casing helps to make the handsets easier to hold and use safely in wet conditions.
And it’s not all about the touchscreen interface, either. In the time-honoured traditions of two-way radio, making a call with the PDC550 is as simple as pressing the push-to-talk (PTT) button and speaking.
The entire handset is rated to IP68 for maximum waterproof protection and superior resistance to dust ingress. Handsets also conform to military standard MIL-STD-810G, which among other things means it has been tested to withstand drops from up to 1.2m onto concrete.
Not only is the PDC550 built to be tough and durable, it will also provide reliable performance when you need it most. Quality audio is guaranteed by powerful in-built speakers that can deliver up to 2.5 watts output power, while dual microphone noise suppression cleans unwanted background noise from the environment. Voice recognition technology, meanwhile, ensures speech gets enhanced at the front of the signal.
The PDC550 also offers highly flexible deployment options. Its operating platform can be run on private networks or in the cloud, and is compatible with other devices thanks to its open software architecture. This opens the door to easy set up of things like dispatch services.
