Brentwood was delighted to be a part of the festivities as London’s East End celebrated global musical heritage at the Barking Folk Festival.
Set amidst the atmospheric ruins of Barking Abbey and the surrounding Abbey Gardens park, the free event featured a bill which included award-winning folk singer Kate Rusby, Glastonbury regulars Beans On Toast and X-Factor child star Lucy Spraggan.
Festival organisers contacted Brentwood to hire a fleet of two way radios for the event. The radio handsets were to provide the main communications link for all staff throughout the preparation and staging of the event, including security.
As always with music festivals, the main considerations for setting up a reliable two way radio network were space, noise, large crowds and the fact that you are operating outdoors.
Easy Performance
For the task, we supplied a fleet of Motorola DP2400 digital radios. A non-display model which benefits from Motorola’s industry-leading advanced digital technology, we chose the DP2400 as a handset which offered the right combination of durability, performance and straightforward operability.
With a control panel confined to just a couple of Push-to-Talk and programmable function buttons, plus a channel select and volume knob, it is easy to pick up how to use a DP2400 quickly and without in depth demonstrations – perfect for staff at a one-off event like a festival.
But despite its simplicity, the DP2400 is packed full of quality features for enhanced performance. With intelligent audio and noise cancelling, it is able to deliver crystal clear audio regardless of the background noise created by a festival crowd and live bands. It can be programmed to allows users to choose between group and private calls for directing communications more efficiently. It is also rated IP67 for water resistance, so the risk of a bit of rain is no threat – perfect for outdoor use!
Although the DP2400 boasts an impressive signal range in ideal conditions, we also supplied a Motorola DR3000 repeater with an antenna to ensure that there was adequate coverage across the whole Abbey Green and into the streets of Barking beyond.
We also supplied a range of audio accessories; D Shape and 2 Wire Acoustic Tube earpieces and Lightweight headsets – both to help with audibility amongst the crowds, but also to make it easier for staff to listen to calls on the move as they were busy working.
