One of the top rated secondary schools in Essex has purchased a brand new fleet of digital two way radios from Brentwood Communications.
The King John School in Benfleet, rated outstanding by national inspectors, is a highly popular Academy for 11 to 18 year olds. It has developed a strong reputation for academic success, with pupil’s achievements ranked well above the national average.
As well as being a vibrant and accomplished education centre, the school also serves as a busy hub for the wider community. Part of the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance, which helps to train student teachers and guide professional development, the school also makes its facilities available for a wide range of uses outside of school hours.
All of this adds up to being an extremely busy place to work and learn. Running a school the size of the The King John is a major operation, involving not only teaching and education support staff, but site managers, office administrators and lunchtime supervisors as well.
A Class Above
The school already used analogue radios to help staff communicate across site, but were finding they did not give sufficient coverage. The handsets were used so teachers and supervisors could quickly call for support, for example if they were with a group of students on the playing fields, and to help site management respond to problems with facilities quickly.
With safety in school of prime concern, the fear was that the radios might fail in the event of an emergency.
School leaders therefore approached Brentwood asking for advice on upgrading their two way radio fleet. Their key requirement was for a product that would provide reliable, crystal clear coverage right across the school site.
After visiting the school, we recommended the Hytera PD405. A hybrid two way radio, the advantage of this product was that it would still work with school’s existing analogue handsets, while providing a transition to state of the art digital radio.
The Hytera PD405 is built for convenience, with a compact, lightweight design that makes it an ideal handheld radio, perfect for multitasking in a busy school environment. With higher output, better coverage range and outstanding audio quality, we knew a digital two way radio would solve the school’s issues with network range.
We let the school trial the Hytera PD405 for a week and they were delighted with the results, signing up for the purchase straight away.
