West Ham United FC celebrated one of the biggest days in its 121-year history when the club opened the doors to its new home, London’s Olympic Stadium.
After more than a century playing at the famous Boleyn Ground in London’s East End, the club made the short hop to Stratford to take up residence at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, built to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
The gala opening, a pre-season friendly match against Italian giants Juventus, was attended by 54,000 fans. Ahead of the event, West Ham’s matchday organising team got in touch to ask for assistance supplying two way handheld radios for the event.
As with any event that size, having reliable communications is a key part of the logistical planning. As well as the need to keep the sizeable stewarding and security team in constant touch, the event involved a large programme of presentations for former players, fans and famous names connected with the club. Keeping everything running smoothly and on time was a key requirement.
High Spec Solutions
For the event, we supplied Motorola DP2400 radios along with 2 Wire Acoustic Tube earpieces and Heavy Duty headsets.
The DP2400 is one of the highest spec two way handheld radios on the market, perfect for large scale premier events like the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. With best-in-class audio, 40% longer battery life and heavy-duty construction, it is a durable, reliable product which delivers the highest quality performance for event radios.
The Motorola DP2400 also automatically adjusts radio volume to compensate for background noise, which is advantageous for event radios, as it makes it perfect for the variable atmosphere of a sports event where things can switch from raucous applause to quiet lulls quickly. It is also ideal for large teams, with 16 channels and the option to make and receive private calls, so you only have to communicate with the colleagues you need to.
The option of having earpieces and larger headsets allowed flexibility for different roles within the team. For the majority of the stewarding staff, the requirement is to hear information and instructions, so in-ear headphones are perfect to make sure communications get through over external noise. But for team leaders within the logistics team, the headsets offer the flexibility to talk to colleagues hands-free on the move, whilst ensuring they also can hear clearly.
