Many companies find it hard to manage visitors arriving at the entry gate of their site. The common remedy is to put their staff on gate duty, or expect them to stay at their desk operating a basic intercom.
Tarmac, the Construction and Services Company, are leaders in their industry, but committed to improving the performance of their employees. That’s why they turned to Brentwood to come up with a more efficient intercom: A system that allows a visitor to call up staff directly on their two-way portable radios from the entry gate. Employees would be aware of the visitor’s arrival, whilst flexibly carrying out other important tasks.
We developed an intercom system that constitutes a GM340 mobile radio, with attached microphone, and installed the equipment at Tarmac’s entry gate.
We housed the mobile radio and microphone in separate weatherproof boxes interconnected by a protected cable. The radio can transmit a powerful signal, via an antenna, mounted on top of the enclosure. The microphone box positioned nearby has a press-to-talk button, which enables a visitor to alert Tarmac when they have arrived. The staff can quickly acknowledge the visitor on their two-way radios whilst on the move.
We elected to use a GM340 mobile radio for this intercom system because it’s a reliable, high-quality product. It can deliver 1 to 25 watts of power and provide crisp, clear, strong audio in virtually any noisy environment. The GM340’s military-level sealing standards offer extra-protection for the radio equipment from driving rain and dust ingression. But more than that, it has also passed a stringent test that simulates 5 years of punishing use in the field. A rock-solid guarantee for years of easy-to-use, trouble-free operation.
