At many professional clubs, the summer close season sees attention switch to hosting huge sell-out gigs with some of the biggest names in pop and rock heading out on tour.
Ashton Gate, home of Championship club Bristol City – nicknamed The Robins – is no exception. The football might be over until August, but over the course of May and June the 27,000 capacity stadium was packed out on a regular basis as a series of big-name acts headlined at the venue.
Rod Stewart, Muse, The Spice Girls and Take That all rolled into town in quick succession, meaning stadium staff and management were as busy as ever.
The club’s stewarding and security operator, Ashton Gate Stadium Security, already own a fleet of more than 100 two way radios which they use on match days. But with bumper crowds expected for all four concerts, they bumped up event staffing. That meant they needed more two way radios to go round, so they turned to Brentwood for help.
Hiring out two way radios for one-off and short term events is an important part of our business. We are often asked to supplement existing equipment with additional radios, so providing handsets that are compatible with what’s already in place is a key requirement.
Premium technology
In this case, after our engineers carried out a thorough survey of Ashton Gate, we recommended additional Motorola DP4400e handsets to the stadium’s operators.
The DP4400e is a solid high spec workhorse of a two way radio, packed full of premium features and adaptable to all sorts of different environments. Part of Motorola’s flagship E-Series, it benefits from the company’s latest digital innovations, including its patented SINC+ noise cancellation, which makes it perfect for use in loud environments such as concerts.
As two way radio is used at Ashton Gate week in, week out and plays a critical role in matchday operations, the club already has a technically assigned license, with exclusive access to six radio channels in and around the stadium. We programmed the hire radios to operate on these, but also made four additional hire channels available – channels that we have a license for and offer as part of our hire service.
