It’s the scary season again – and in the build up to Halloween, Brentwood was delighted to be asked back to supply two way radio support to Essex’s most spine-tingling event.
The Cursed, held in the eerie grounds of Wat Tyler Park in Pitsea, near Basildon, is a gigantic award winning celebration of all things ghoulish and gory.
Featuring eight nerve-shredding zones and mazes, with live actors prowling the park to keep visitors on their toes and a spookily entertaining children’s area, The Cursed has grown in size and popularity each year to become a major attraction on the regional calendar.
Organisational Challenge
As the annual extravaganza has grown, so has the logistical challenge faced by organisers. Coordinating actors, technical and production staff, stewards, security and front of house support is difficult at any busy outdoor event.
But when that event is purpose built to take place after dark, with the threat of wet autumn weather and attractions designed to disorientate and unnerve visitors, striking the right balance between giving everybody a good scare and keeping all visitors safe is tricky.
This year, Brentwood supplied organisers with Lugra Evolve E55 digital two way radios, with lightweight headsets and 2 Wire Acoustic Tube earpieces.
Portable and Reliable
The E55 is a compact and lightweight handset easy to carry around a busy event, but still offers advanced audio and reliable coverage. The accessories supplied allow for hands free use on the move, leaving users to concentrate on other things.
The Cursed is no ordinary event, and sometimes the duties required of staff can be a little out of the ordinary, such as fishing visitors out of attractions when they become a little too frightened and disorientated. The organisers’ main concerns are to ensure all staff are mobile, ready to respond to any situation, and above all that they can keep in touch at all times.
The Cursed is a scarily good night out for everyone involved – as members of the Brentwood team can testify. We thoroughly enjoyed being frightened out of our wits last year, and are looking forward to a return visit this year with a new bunch of ‘victims’. It really is an excellent, well run event and we are proud to continue to provide assistance.
