Energy giant Alstom Power has hired two way radio equipment from Brentwood Communications to help deal with power outages at its Pembroke Power Station.
Each year Alstom uses Brentwood two way radios at its Staythorpe plant in the Midlands, making us the natural choice when there was a similar requirement at the Pembrokeshire plant.
The Pembroke gas-fired combined cycle power station is the largest of its kind in the UK, supplying energy to around three million homes. Built on the site of a previously demolished oil-fired power station, it consists of five generating units each rated at around 400 MW and has a total capacity of up to 2,160 MW.
Due to the potentially hazardous environment at the power station, Brentwood has supplied Alstom with a large amount of ATEX equipment to manage the outages. These comprise of 60 Motorola GP340 EX two way radios, along with ATEX-rated carry cases, chargers and spare batteries.
These ATEX-approved radios give users immediate access to colleagues at the touch of a button, without compromising safety, and enable constant contact should a critical situation arise. The GP340 EX has 16 communication channels, making it an ideal solution for professionals who need to stay in touch. When the user is unavailable, the Call Forward function can transfer messages to another team member. This radio comes with a low battery alert and Lone Worker function for further protection for those working in isolation.
ATEX radios are designed to minimise risk during busy transmission periods, sparking and high temperatures. ATEX-rated means they meet the ATEX EU directive, which equipment must adhere to in an explosive atmosphere. Electricity generation is a potentially explosive environment; hence the ATEX-rated radios supplied by Brentwood are the best fit at Pembroke.
For four decades, Brentwood Communications has been supplying two way radios to first-class companies the world over. We always use the latest technology to ensure our customers receive remarkable coverage, flawless reception, intelligent audio and emergency features.
