A refurbishment programme in 2004 restored the Grade II listed Watford Palace Theatre to its Edwardian glory. Today, this popular Hertfordshire venue entertains 600-strong audiences through a range of art forms and is an important cultural reference for the whole community.
Part of the appeal is the melding of the historic building with modern facilities that make the theatre accessible to all visitors. The traditional gilding and red plush seating are fabulously juxtaposed alongside the coffee shop and newly opened Green Room Bar.
Delivering modern performances in an old venue relies on flawless communications, from backstage to front of house and those in the spotlight. To help achieve its professional productions, Watford Palace Theatre has enlisted the help of Brentwood Communications, and we have now supplied the management with Motorola DP4800 digital radios with standard keypads to allow full text messaging. Other staff are equipped with the Motorola DP4600, which has the same functionality other than a partial keypad for pre-set text messaging, Both models produce exceptional audio clarity for hearing and speaking clearly in any environment.
Brentwood Communications has extensive experience in installing two way radio systems in large auditoriums, where technicians and stage managers need to be heard without interrupting the show. To this end, we have provided Watford Palace Theatre with two types of earpieces; d-shape earpieces which sit over the ear, and two wire acoustic tube earpieces with an earbud which fits in the ear.
The two way equipment from Brentwood will also be invaluable for the theatre’s outside events such as the Imagine Watford annual summer street festival, at which Watford Palace Theatre is a key attraction. Two Motorola DR3000 Repeaters will provide the necessary boost to the radio signal so staff at the theatre can communicate with the festival acts taking place in the street outside.
The Motorola DP4000 Series digital two way radios can offer a whole host of beneficial features; intelligent audio, which means the radio volume changes automatically to adjust for background noise, a four-line led display, menu navigation keys and five programmable buttons. These highly specified, high-performance radios provide endless possibilities for integrated communication solutions. Integrated GPS enables location tracking of mobile work groups, and text messaging can be used when voice communication is not appropriate, perfect for discreet conversations. With MOTOTRBO’s dispatcher system, controllers can also send tickets to individual users or allocate specific tasks to be completed.
