Kenwood Announces Affordable New Two Way Radio for Business

Two way radio manufacturer Kenwood has unveiled a brand new two way radio intended to offer businesses a high value, no hassle communications solution.

The TK-3601D extends Kenwood’s existing range of unlicensed professional two way radios under the ProTalk Digital PMR446 brand. The name refers to the public 446MHz frequency band which is free to use without a license. Kenwood two way radio models built to operate on this band therefore offer a significant cost saving compared to licensed radios.

Whereas many unlicensed radios are intended for leisure or casual use, the TK-3601D is built very much with the needs of business and industry in mind. Designed to be flexible, Kenwood is marketing the model as an ideal ‘starter’ two way radio in sectors such as hospitality, education and retail.

Long-lasting quality

Lightweight and compact, and therefore easy for workers on foot to carry around for long periods, the TK-3601D is nonetheless robustly built, meeting a number of exacting standards for resistance to things like shock, vibration, exposure to extreme temperatures and dust ingress. The advanced battery technology includes a power saving mode which maintains charge for up to 19 hours, meaning there is no issue with needing to recharge even on the longest shifts.

As with all of its two way radios, Kenwood has made full use of its HiFi and car audio expertise to ensure that the TK-3601DE delivers outstanding quality audio in all circumstances. A special piece of technology known as a vocoder ensures that the built-in speakers broadcast voice that is as natural-sounding as possible, while background noise is reduced and signal delay minimised.

Evidence of its flexibility is found in the fact that the TK-3601DE can operate in both analogue and digital modes, making it perfect in scenarios where companies want to start to introduce digital handsets to work alongside older analogue models. It offers 16 channels in analogue mode and 32 in digital.

Sleek and modern in design, the TK-3601DE deviates away from the classic two way radio control set up by having the push-to-talk (PTT) button on the front face rather than the side of the handset. As well as this and two programmable function buttons, it features a single line LCD display plus a seven-colour LED light, which can be programmed to indicate caller ID depending on the channel or work group a call is received from.
